Ladner Black Mouth Cur

History

Dating back hundreds of years ago, it is unknown what exact bloodlines made up the Ladner Black Mouth Cur, however it is well known that in the South of the United States, Cur breeds can be seen all over. It is believed that several of these generations is what eventually made up the Ladner Black Mouth Cur we know of today. This breed is an excellent herding and working breed.

Appearance

The Ladner Black Mouth Cur is a large size breed with males and females measuring 16-25 inches in height and weighing 45-95 pounds in weight. Their head is broad and wedge shaped, forming into a rectangular long muzzle. The space between their ears is broad and flat, leading to two large sized triangular ears, folded firmly alongside of their face. Their two eyes are large in size and oval in shape, generally a light hazel to dark brown in color. Their general body build is large, muscular and active in appearance. Their tail is very thick down to a point and held towards the ground when relaxed. This breed has four very tall legs. Their single layer coat is short and held tight to their skin, available in shades of fawn and brindle.

Temperament

The Ladner Black Mouth Cur is a very active, headstrong breed who needs to have a daily job to do and plenty physical activity to go along with it. This breed is not meant for everyone due to their physical and mental exercise needs that need to be met daily. Ideally, this breed is meant for those who are avid outdoor hunters or those who live on a farm that have daily herding and jobs for their Ladner Black Mouth Cur to take care of. This breed requires early socialization and obedience classes. Best suited for homes with older children and only other canines. This breed is protective, courageous, loving and extremely loyal to their owners.

Grooming

This breed does shed. Daily brushing and bathing when needed.
