Ori-Pei

History

Known as a designer breed, the Ori Pei breed was created by crossing the Shar Pei and Pug bloodlines. Generally, breeders pick a health Shar Pei to breed with a healthy Pug, creating a litter of puppies that are 50%/50%. However some breeders may choose to pick a healthy Ori-Pei and breed it with a Pug, making the litter of puppies primarily 75% pug and 25% Shar Pei. This is important to consider and something to bring up to the breeder that you choose.

Appearance

The Ori- Pei is a medium sized dog breed with males and females measuring 15-20 inches in height and generally weigh anywhere from 20-65 pounds in weight. This breed generally has a medium sized rectangular shaped head that forms into a muzzle almost the same width. Their two ears are small in size, triangular in shape and are held alongside of their face. Their two eyes are accompanied by many wrinkles on the face and are generally dark hazel to black in color. Their tail is generally medium in length and curled up over and onto their back. Their short coat is dense, hard to the touch and generally shades of fawn with a darker mask on some dogs.

Temperament

As with all designer breeds, each puppy is his or her own individual. It is important to research both the Shar Pei and the Pug personalities and traits both negative and positive before adding one to your household to ensure that it is a breed that can live happily within your house. In general, the Ori-Pei is a loving, fun, expressive breed who can be stubborn at times and difficult to house-break. Early socialization and obedience classes are recommended. This breed loves being close to their family members and included in activities. Generally good with other pets and canines. Wonderful with children of all ages.

Grooming

This breed sheds daily. Daily brushing and bathing when needed. This breed's coat can cause a common red rash and skin reaction to their owners.

Special Notes

Please fully educate yourself about tempermeant, health and other information about both the Shar Pei and Pug breed prior to considering to add an Ori-Pei to your family to ensure you are able to provide a life long physical and financial commitment to your new family member. This breed is prone to skin issues and allergies. A properly installed fence or proper fitting harness and leash is required while outdoors at all times. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders. Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2017. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
